Corneal anterior surface after stopping wearing orthokeratology for 3 weeks and its influencing factor
Objective To observe the recovery condition of anterior surface of corneal after wearing orthokeratology (Ortho-K) for 1.5 and 2.5 years and then stopping it for 3 weeks and investigate its influencing factors Ortho-K. Methods A retrospective study was carried out on 157 myopia patients at an age from 8 to 18 years old who underwent Ortho-K treatment in our hospital during July 2011 and August 2014. One hundred and seven patients (210 eyes) had worn Ortho-K for 1.5 years
and the left 50 (100 eye) had for 2.5 years. The recovery and change of anterior surface of corneal were observed after their stopping for 3 weeks by corneal topography for flat K (FK) value
steep K (SK) value and corneal astigmatism (Astig)
and the results were analyzed with different curvature
different diopter and different ages. Results There were significant changes in FK and SK values and Astig before and after wearing Ortho-K for 1.5 years (P0.01). Pre-treatment FK variation had effects on FK value and Astig after stopping the OrthoK treatment (P0.05)
but the variation of diopter had no effect on FK value (P0.05). When the spherical equivalent less than -4.00 D
there were no significant changes in the changes of SK value and Astig (P0.05)
but statistical changes were seen in above 2 indicators when the equivalent between -4.00 D and -6.00 D (P0.01). Age exerted obvious effect on FK variation (P0.05)
with the patients older the faster of the FK value rebound. FK variation and Astig variation were significant between the patients who wearing Ortho-K for 1.5 and 2.5 years after stopping the treatment (P0.01). Conclusion After stopping orthokeratology for 3 weeks
the FK and SK values and corneal astigmatism will not be fully restored to before. Age
diopter
curvature and different wearing time are the influencing factors for condition of anterior surface of corneal. Dioper development should be analyzed comprehensively with the original diopter and eye axis variation before and after wearing Ortho-K.
