Serum urokinase type plasminogen activator is related to prognosis of acute myeloid leukemia
Objective To determine the level of urokinase type plasminogen activator(uPA) in the serum of patients with acute myeloid leukemia(AML) and investigate its correlation with the prognosis of the disease. Methods Serum uPA protein level was determined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 45 untreated AML patients (including 25 poor prognosis patients
10 favorable prognosis patients and 10 moderate prognosis patients) and 10 healthy subjects
and the results were compared and analyzed among the groups. Results The serum level of uPA protein was significantly higher in AML patients than healthy subjects(P0.05).A significant increase of serum uPA levels was found in poor prognosis AML patients compared to other control groups(P0.05). Conclusion The serum level of uPA has a close relationship with the risk stratification of AML. Monitoring the serum uPA level is helpful for early prognostic prediction in newly diagnosed AML patients.
