Interpretation bias under different conditions of self-relevance in individuals with depressed mood
Objective To investigate whether the individuals with depressed mood have different bias when interpreting ambiguous information under different conditions of self-relevance. Methods The subjects of depressive group (n=20) and control group (n=20) were screened by Beck depression inventory-Ⅱ (BDI-Ⅱ). Words association paradigm (WSAP) behavioral tasks were used to measure the interpretation bias in ambiguous scenarios under different conditions of self-relevance. The endorsement rate and reaction time of emotional words were recorded. Experimental data were statistically analyzed using SPSS18.0 Software. Results In general
the depressive group and the control group showed significant differences in the endorsement rate (P0.001) and reaction time (P0.001
P0.01) on benign words and negative words. Under 3 different conditions (unrelated others
intimate relationship
and self-relevance situations)
the depressive group showed significant differences in the endorsement rate (P0.001) and reaction time (P0.05
P0.01) on benign words and negative words
and the control group also showed significant differences in the endorsement rate (P0.05
P0.01) and reaction time (P0.05) on benign words and negative words. Under the self-relevance condition
the endorsement rate of negative words in the depressive group was highest and the reaction time of negative words was shortest. Under the intimate relationship condition
the endorsement rate of benign words in the depressive group was highest and the reaction time of benign words was shortest. Conclusion The depressive individuals show significant negative bias and possible lack of benign bias when interpreting ambiguous information
and the negative interpretation bias exist in both self-relevance situation and non-self-relevance situation.
