Compassion fatigue in psychiatric nurses and its influencing factors
Objective To investigate the current status and influencing factors of compassion fatigue in psychiatric nurses. Methods A total of 190 psychiatric nurses from 2 Grade A Class 3 hospitals in Chengdu city were recruited and investigated with a self-designed General Condition Questionnaire
Compassion fatigue scale
Trait Coping Style Questionnaire
the Life Event Scale (LES)
Self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS). Results The total score of compassion fatigue was 101.95±7.14
and the mean scores of items were 2.83±0.22 in the cohort. Among the items
the score of abepithymia was the highest
while that of negative behavior was the lowest. Multiple regression analysis showed that gender
working years
negative live event and negative coping style were influencing factors of compassion fatigue (P0.05). Conclusion The compassion fatigue is in the medium level for psychiatric nurses
and affected by many factors. Certain attentions should be paid to and some measures should be taken to the nurses.
