Relationship between time for non-medical indication cesarean section and neonatal outcomes
Objective To analyze the relationship between the time for non-medical indication cesarean section and neonatal outcomes. Methods Clinical data of 2 668 cases of non-medical indication cesarean section from December 2007 to December 2013 in the Southwest Hospital of Third Military Medical University were retrospectively analyzed. According to the cesarean section time
the cases were divided into 4 groups: group A: 38 weeksgestational age≥37 weeks
253 cases; group B: 39 weeks>gestational age≥38 weeks
1 268 cases; group C: 40 weeksgestational age≥39 weeks
815 cases; and group D: 41 weeks>gestational age≥40 weeks
332 cases. The neonatal outcomes were analyzed with software SPSS 17.0. Results Group C had the lowest incidence of neonatal adverse events among the 4 groups. Comparing group C with other groups
the differences in the incidence of neonatal respiratory system disease
incidence of neonatal hypoglycemia
and rate of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) hospitalization were statistically significant (P0.05). Conclusion Gestational age between 39 and 40 weeks is the best time for cesarean section in non-medical indication cesarean.
