Regulatory emotional self-efficacy mediates relation of personality traits and soldiers’ psychological stress
Objective To investigate the relationship of soldiers’ personality traits
regulatory emotional self-efficacy and psychological stress. Methods Psychological stress self-evaluation test (PSET)
neuroticism extraversion openness five-factor inventory (NEO-FFI) and the scale of regulatory emotional self-efficacy (SRESE) were adopted to evaluate 283 male soldiers (signalmen). Results Kindness
conscientiousness
extraversion and openness were positively correlated with perceived self-efficacy in expressing positive affect and positively correlated with perceived self-efficacy in managing negative affect (P0.01)
Neuroticism was negatively correlated with perceived self-efficacy in expressing positive affect and positively correlated with perceived self-efficacy in managing negative affect (P0.01). Kindness
conscientiousness and extraversion were negatively correlated with psychological stress (P0.01). Neuroticism was positively correlated with psychological stress (P0.01)
but openness was not correlated with psychological stress (P0.05). Psychological stress was negatively correlated with perceived self-efficacy in expressing positive affect (P0.05) and positively correlated with perceived self-efficacy in managing negative affect (P0.01). Soldiers’ perceived self-efficacy in managing negative affect partly mediated the relation of kindness
conscientiousness and extraversion with psychological stress. Conclusion Personality traits affect soldiers’ psychological stress through regulatory emotional self-efficacy.
