Analysis on laser and acid treatment of titanium implant with nanotubes
Objective To study the method of laser and acid treatment of titanium implant to produce nanotubes on the surface. Methods The titanium surface was treated with laser
acid etching (18% HCl and 49% H
2
SO
4
) and anodic oxidation. Surface morphology was tested with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Elemental composition and compound states were tested with electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Surface roughness was tested with a BMT Experi 3D surface topography instrument. Results The surface of titanium implant had composite microstructure and nanostructure (nanotubes)
element composition of Ti and O
anatase crystal ph
ase
and surface roughness of Ra=8.19±0.09 μm
Rq=10.64±2.10 μm
and Rt=43.42±6.18 μm. Conclusion The surface treatment method of titanium implant with laser
acid etching (18% HCl and 49% H
2
SO
4
) and anodic oxidation generates rough surface with nanostructure and good physical properties.
