Anxiety and depression and their relationship with life events and personality in cyclomastopathy women: report of 675 cases
Objective To investigate the mental health status of women with cyclomastopathy. Methods Totally 675 cyclomastopathy patients were recruited from Southwest Hospital and Daping Hospital
Chongqing from June to December 2012 in this study. Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA)
Hamilton depression scale (HAMD)
neuroticism extraversion openness (NEO)
and life event scale (LES) were employed to measure their metal health status. Results The patients with anxious state accounted for 85.90%
and those with depressive state for 81.63%. There were 75.26% patients having their LES over 20 points. All patients had significantly higher neuroticism
factors scores than the norm (
P
0.01)
while obviously lower extraversion factors scores (
P
0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that mental health status of patients was closely related to family life factors
neuroticism factors
work and study factors and extraversion factors. Conclusion Women with cyclomastopathy are commonly in poor mental health status
especially in anxious state and depressive state. Beside life events
personality and illness also interact with each other. Therefore
sufficient psychological intervention should be given to these women.
