Diagnosis and treatment analysis of intracranial tumefactive demyelinating lesions
treatment and prognosis of intracranial tumefactive demyelinating lesions. Methods The clinical data of 10 cases with intracranial tumefactive demyelinating lesions treated in our department from August 2006 to February 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. Results In all 10 cases
6 cases underwent surgical treatment and 4 cases underwent stereotactic biopsy. After confirmation by pathological examinations
some patients took pharmaceutical therapy. Moreover
6 cases of intracranial tumefactive demyelinating lesions were not diagnosed before operation. Following-up of 3 to 84 months (average 34 months) was carried out. Eight cases showed alleviated symptoms or complete recovery
containing 1 case with unchanged focus and 7 cases with obviously reduced or disappeared foci. Two cases showed recurrence and were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Conclusion Intracranial tumefactive demyelinating lesions are usually diagnosed based on auxiliary inspections and clinical features. With steroid hormone treatment after operation
the prognosis is good
but a few cases need to combine with other treatments. Non-characteristic clinical features and non-characteristic radiographic manifestations contribute to misdiagnosis.
