A new type of hepatic tissue-mimicking gel phantom for radiofrequency ablation
Objective To build a new type of tissue-mimicking gel phantom for radiofrequency ablation (RFA)
which has similar characteristics with human hepatic tissue. Methods The hepatic tissue-mimicking gel phantom was made from de-aerated water
agar gel and some fresh animal hepatic tissues. The physical characteristics of this new phantom were measured. RFA was performed on this phantom. The ablation volume was measured after RFA
and the efficacy of RFA was evaluated. Results The gel phantom showed density of (1 055.75±9.29)kg/m
3
specific heat capacity of (3 446±137)J/(kg·℃)
conductivity of (0.123±0.004)s/m (470 kHz) and the CT value of (25.68±5.85)HU
which were similar with the physical cha
racteristics of the human liver. The ablation area could be clearly observed after RFA
which can be measured immediately or through CT scanning. Conclusion The new type of hepatic tissue-mimicking gel phantom was similar with the human liver.
