Abstract
Objective To provide the evidence for policy making to prevent job burnout in medial staff from 3A PLA hospitals by investigating current state and demographic influence factors. Methods Job burnout of 732 medial staff in general 3A PLA hospitals was investigated using the self-formulated general demographic data questionnaire
cluster sampling method and the Chinese Maslach burnout inventory (CMBI) worked out by Li Yongxin. The medial staff in 3A PLA hospitals were screened according to Li Yongxin’ diagnostic criteria for job burnout and compared with the medical staff in civil hospitals. Results The total score of emotional exhaustion was (21.96±7.54) which was lower than its critical value (25)
and (11.7±7.44) and (16.04±6.04) respectively for depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishments which were slightly higher than its critical value (11 and 16) . The detection rate of emotional exhaustion
depersonalization and diminished personal accomplishments was significantly lower in medial staff of 3A PLA hospitals than in those of local hospitals (20.9% vs 81.2%
30.9% vs 66.4% and 42.7% vs 76.2%
P0.05). The detection rate of diminished personal accomplishments was higher in divorced medical staff
those with a record of professional training school and an income of less than 2 000 RMB Yuan than in married and unmarried medical staff
those with a record of college and university training
master and doctor
and an income of 2 000 to 5 000 RMB Yuan or over (P0.05). The emotional exhaustion was severer in military personnel than in non-military and employed personnel (P0.05). A significant difference was found in emotional exhaustion and depersonalization of medical staff working at different departments and positions (P0.05). Conclusion The current state of job burnout is better in 3A PLA hospitals than in civil hospitals. More attention should be paid to military personnel and ICU
