Influence of dolichoectatic internal carotid artery on cognitive function
Objective To study whether dolichoectatic internal carotid artery (DICA) induces cognitive impairment
and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of DICA. Methods Twenty-five inpatients with DICA (DICA group) and twenty-five patients without DICA (control group) identified by cerebral angiography were tested with a set of neuropsychological scales
including mini-mental state examination (MMSE)
Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA)
verbal fluency test (VFT)
digit span test (DST)
and Wechsler memory scale-revised in China (WMS-RC). Results The MMSE
MoCA
VFT and memory quotient scores of the DICA group were 24.56±2.43
15.92±3.37
12.16±2.82
and 79.96±13.18
respectively
significantly lower than those (27.00±1.66
24.28±2.78
18.64±3.00
and 107.64±12.63
respectively) of the control group (P0.01). Conclusion DICA may induce the impairment of cognitive function such as executive function
