Significance of continuous and dynamical monitoring intracranial pressure in postoperative patients with large meningioma beside sagittal sinus or brain sickle
Objective To continuously and dynamically monitor the changes of intracranial pressure (ICP) in postoperative patients with meningioma beside the sagittal sinus or brain sickle
and to evaluate the clinical significance and efficacy of the monitoring. Methods A total of 53 patients with large meningioma beside the sagittal sinus or brain sickle who admitted in our department from February to November 2009 were enrolled in this study. There were 20 cases of meningioma beside the sagittal sinus
23 of beside brain sickle
and 10 besides sinusal sickle. After operation
their ICP was monitored continuously and dynamically till the index was stable of the patients were dead. Clinical data of these patients and their prognosis were retrospectively analyzed. Results Their ICP was decreased to a very low level and even minus value within 6 h after operation (5.87±7.33 mmHg)
then gradually elevated during 6 to 72 h (10.62±13.21 mmHg)
and reached the peak at 72 h postoperatively (13.36±11.43 mmHg). Conclusion Continuously and dynamical monitoring postoperative ICP can discover its change as early as possible and thus mediate timely the therapeutic measurements to restore the pressure. Since increased ICP appears prior to manifested symptoms
it is valuable to monitor ICP combined with radiological examination to prevent perioperative incidence of cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral edema.
