Brainstem auditory evoked potential of neonate and infants with cytomegalovirus infection and clinical significance
Objective To investigate the relationship between among neonates and infants with congenital human cytomegalovirus infection and their abnormal brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) and explore the clinical significance. Methods A total of 296 neonates and infants with etiologically identified human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) received BAEP examination in our hospital from May
2007 to May
2010. The results of BAEP were analyzed with their gender
inhabited environment and ages. Results The rate of abnormal BAEP was 25.3% in the subjected 296 HCMV patients. Most of them showed peripheral auditory pathway impairment. The abnormal rate was higher in the neonates than in the infants. The rate of abnormal BAEP had no relationship with the sex
inhabited environment and age in congenital HCMV infection (Chi sqaure=0.831
0.313
3.976
P0.05). Conclusion It is valuable to evaluate BAEP for neonates and infants with congenital HCMV infection as early as possible. It will be helpful to carry out a therapeutic intervention earlier in clinic.
