Group psychological intervention improves survival quality of malignant tumor patients
Objective To investigate the impact of semi-structured group psychological intervention on the survival quality
emotion
social support and coping in malignant tumor patients. Methods A total of 42 patients with pathologically-identified carcinoma over 1 year
anticipation of life time more than 6 months and karnofsky performance scale (KPS) ≧80 were subjected in this study during June to November 2008. They were assigned into 3 groups without obvious difference in age
gender and tumor types
and then received a 12-week semi-structured group interview. Before and in 4 weeks after the interview
all patients were investigated by the scale of QLQ-C30
self-rating depression scale (SDS)
self-rating anxiety scale (SAS)
social support rating scale (SSRS)
coping style questionnaire
and self-made subject feeling questionnaire. Results The scores of SDS
SAS
fatigue
loss of appetite
insomnia and pain were dropped down (t=2.751 to 7.280
P=0.000 to 0.006)
and the scores of general health
emotional function and SSRS were increased (t=-10.442 to -3.489
P=0.000 to 0.001) significantly in 4 weeks after the end of interview than those before. But the score of cope style had no significant difference between the begin and 4-week after the end (t=-0.428 to 1.869
P=0.069 to 0.672). Conclusion Semi-structured group psychological intervention has significant impact on the survival quality
emotional status and social support of the malignant tumors patients
but has no significant effect on their coping styles.
