Effect of repeated IVF/ICSI-ET treatment on ovarian reaction and pregnant outcome
Objective To study the effect of repeated in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and embryo transfer (ET) treatment on ovarian reaction and the methods to increase the pregnancy rate during the repeated IVF/ICSI-ET treatment. Methods A total of 208 cycles of IVF/ICSI-ET treatment to promote ovulation in 97 infertility patients were retrospectively analyzed whoadmilted in our center from January 2005 to December 2009. Results The pregnancy rate was significantly higher after the third cycle than after the first cycle of IVF/ICSI-ET treatment (P0.05). However
no significant difference was observed in the number of retrieved oocytes
MⅡ oocytes
embryogenesis and high-quality embryos. Of the 97 patients
50 underwent hysteroscopy or endometrial debridement. The pregnancy rate was higher in patients with clearly visible hysteroscopy images than in those with unclearly visible hysteroscopy images (38.5% vs 16.7%
P0.05)after the second cycle of IVF/ICSI-ET treatment. The pregnancy rate was higher for those after IVF/ICSI-ET treatment though ureterectomy and fistulation than for those after IVF/ICSI-ET treatment with sactosalpinx puncture (54.5% vs 20.0%
P0.05). Conclusion There is no obviously difference in ovarian reaction during the three IVF/ICSI-ET treatment cycles. Attention should be paid to the pelvic cavity and uterine receptivity in those undergoing repeated IVF/ICSI-ET treatment in order to increase their pregnancy rate.
