Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of water extractive of Panacis Majoris Rhizoma in mice
Objective To study the anti-inflammatory and analgesic actions of Panacis Majoris Rhizoma. Methods A total of 250 mice were randomly divided in 5 groups. The former 3 groups were used for anti-inflammatory study
with xylene-induced auricle tumefaction
carrageenan-induced hind paws swelling and cotton-induced granuloma respectively. The left 2 group were set for analgesic investigation with acetic acid writhing test and hot plate test respectively. Each group was further divided into 5 subgroups
with 10 animals in each. Subgroup 1 was given distilled water as control group
subgroup 2 was given low-dose Panacis Majoris Rhizoma (2.50 g/kg)
subgroup 3 was given middle-dose (5.00 g/kg)
subgroup 4 was given high-dose Panacis Majoris Rhizoma (10.00 g/kg)
and subgroup 5 was given aspirin (0.20 g/kg). All drugs were administered once a day for 7 d intragastrically
and the corresponding injury was inflicted after last or next to last injection. Results Compared with control group
the 3 different-dose groups of water extractive of Panacis Majoris Rhizoma were able to significantly inhibit the mice auricle tumefaction induced by xylene
hind paws swelling induced by carrageenan and granuloma induced by cotton. The pains in mice caused by acetic acid and hot plate
such as writhing frequency were evidently attenuated
and the latent period and pain threshold were obviously elevated by the water extractive of Panacis Majoris Rhizoma (P0.05
P0.01
respectively). Conclusion The water extractive of Panacis Majoris Rhizoma has obvious anti-inflammation and analgesic effects in mice.
