Expression and significance of lipid metabolism-related genes in breast invasive ductal carcinoma
Objective To investigate the expressions of lipid metabolism-related genes in breast invasive ductal carcinoma and adjacent non-cancerous tissues
and evaluate their roles in the occurrence of breast invasive ductal carcinoma. Methods Experimental samples were derived from our previous population study on breast cancer. Breast cancer tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues were spontaneously collected from 30 invasive ductal carcinoma patients. The expressions of fatty acid synthase (FAS)
cyclooxygenase-2 (Cox-2)
5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) mRNA were detected by RT-PCR. Results Expressions of FAS
Cox-2
and 5-LOX in breast cancer tissues were significantly higher than those in adjacent tissues (FAS: 3.265±0.913 vs 1.300±0.712
P0.01; Cox-2 and 5-LOX: 2.449±1.333 vs 1.027±0.596
P0.05; 2.766±1.193 vs 1.159±0.520
P0.05). There was no significant difference of PPAR-γ expression between the 2 groups (2.771±1.313 vs 2.235±1.383
P0.05). Conclusion Higher expressions of FAS
Cox-2
and 5-LOX are positively correlated with the occurrence of breast invasive ductal carcinoma.
