Laparoscopic resection for sacrococcygeal teratoma: report of 26 cases
technique skills and clinical outcome of laparoscopic sacrococcygeal teratoma resection. Methods Laparoscopic resection of sacrococcygeal teratoma was performed in 26 patients admitted to our hospital from July 2002 to September 2009. The smallest and largest tumor was 4 cm×4 cm×3 cm and 13 cm×12 cm×10 cm in size
respectively
with their low margin 1 cm to 6 cm away from the anus. Results All the procedures were completed under laparoscope with an average operation time of 98 min (45-160 min) and an average blood loss of 180 ml (140-330 ml). No complication occurred during the operation
except for rectum injury in 2 patients
which was repaired under laparoscope. Gastrointestinal tract began to move in 1-2 d (1.2 d) after surgery. The average postoperative hospital stay was 3.9 d (3-6 d). Intestinal fistula occurred in 1 patient and was repaired. Seventeen patients were followed up for 2-51 months
during which no recurrence was found. Conclusion laparoscopic resection of sacrococcygeal teratoma is a safe
reliable
effective and radical procedure characterized by few complications and rapid recovery.
