Risk factors of postoperative recurrence of spinal tuberculosis: a comparative analysis on 486 cases
Objective To analyse explore the importance of the risk factors of the strength of postoperative recurrence risk factors in of spinal tuberculosis. Methods Totally 486 patients suffering from spinal tuberculosis and receiveding surgery from January 1998 to December 2007 in our department were subjected. They were followed up for 1 to 3 years and divided into 2 groups according to time course. Group 1 (n=129) was the patients treated during the period of 1998 to 2002
including 34 cases with recurrence and 95 without
and group 2 (n=357) were the patients operated from 2003 to 2007
including 27 case with recurrence and 330 without. We compared their clinical data
such as the nutrition
the extent of lesions
whether clearing the lesion surgically
whether having formal pre- and post-operative medication
drug therapy
and whether strictly stayed in bed after surgery. At last
we analyzed the importance of these risk factors of postoperative recurrence of spinal tuberculosis. Results In group 1
whether strictly stay in bed after surgery was the strongest risk factor. In group 2
whether having preope-rative drug therapy was the strongest risk factor. Conclusion We should strengthen drug therapy
and then
the postoperative recurrence of spinal tuberculosis could be controlled.
