Effects of neurodevelopmental support care on growth and neuropsychological development of premature infants
Objective To explore the effects of neurodevelopmental support care on the growth and neuropsychological development of premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit. Methods A total of 78 premature infants were randomly divided into observed group (38 cases) and control group (40 cases). Observed group was treated with neurodevelopmental support care on the basis of traditional nursing. The control group was treated with traditional nursing. The growth velocity of weight
head circumference and height were measured at hospital admission and discharge. Neonatal behavioral neurological assessment (NBNA) was administered at the adjusted age of 14 days. Gesell development schedules (GDS) were performed to test the nervous behaviors
intellectual and motional development of the infants at the adjusted age of 2 and 6 months. Results The average increase in weight and the NBNA scores in the 4 aspects of nervous behaviors of the observed group were higher than those of the control group (P0.01). At the age of 6 months
the Gesell scores of 3 functional areas (social area
adaptive area and motor area) in the observed group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P0.01). Conclusion Neurodevelopmental support care is beneficial for the growth
intellectual and motional development of premature infants.
