Comparison between an eye tracker and EOG in recording saccades
Objective To evaluate the advantages of self-designed eye tracker in recording the eye movements. Methods After recording of the saccades of 14 normal subjects at each deflection angle (5
10
15
20) simultaneously and concurrently for 15 s by an eye tracker and electrooculogram (EOG)
the data were then compared and analyzed. Results Sawtooth-like waveform was found in EOG but square-like waveform in the eye tracker. The mean value of data analysis unit in both methods rose with the increases in the absolute value of deflection angle like V. Coefficient of variations in amplitude at each deflection angle was significantly lower in the eye tracker than that in EOG (P0.01 except at -10
P0.05). Coefficient of variations in data analyzing unit was significantly lower in the eye tracker than that in EOG (P0.01). Conclusion Under the same condition
an eye tracker for recording saccades in normal subjects is less variable and more precise as compared with EOG. The individual variation in the record by eye tracker is less than that by EOG.
