Objective    To study the level changes of blood serum visfatin during the development of coronary artery disease (CAD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients

and to find out the relationship of visfatin with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) caused CAD.     Methods    According to WHO Diabetes Mellitus diagnosis standard

61 T2DM patients were selected randomly. By electrocardiogram and angiography

the patients were divided into 2 groups: T2DM (n=18) and T2DM complicated with CAD (DC

n=43). Another 29 healthy subjects were included as normal controls. Blood serum visfatin

blood fat and glycosylated hemoglobin were detected for all subjects and insulin resistance index was also calculated. Their waist

age and BMI were recorded.     Results    Visfatin concentration of T2DM group and DC group was much higher than that of normal controls (t=4.992 1

and visfatin concentration of DC group was significantly lower than that of T2DM group (t=4.236

suggesting insulin resistance index was independently related to visfatin. The concentration of blood serum visfatin was correlated with glycosylated hemoglobin

but not with course of disease and age.     Conclusion    That elevated blood serum visfatin in T2DM patients started decreasing indicates the development or aggravation of CAD. Visfatin will play a role in the diagnosis

prevention and treatment of T2DM complicated with CAD.
