Relationship between generation of intracranial communicating artery aneurysms and variation of circle of Willis
Objective To explore the relationship between the generation of anterior and posterior communicating artery aneurysms and the variation of circle of Willis by volume computed tomography digital subtraction angiography (VCTDSA) with 64-slice multidetector row CT. Methods The imaging data of 204 patients who underwent VCTDSA were retrospectively reviewed
and according to their diagnostic results were divided into anterior communicating artery aneurysm group (ACoAA group
n=24)
posterior communicating artery aneurysm group (PCoAA group
n=63)
and control group without aneurysms (n117). In ACoAA group and PCoAA group
their gender
age
angle between major diameter of aneurysms and the corresponding artery supplying blood to aneurysms were recorded. The relationship between generation of communicating artery aneurysms and variation of circle of Willis was observed. Results Between 24 cases of ACoAA and 63 cases of PCoAA
there was no significant difference in age (P0.05)
but in angle and gender (P0.05). It showed that more men suffered from ACoAA and more women from PCoAA. Compared to the control group
PCoAA group exhibited no significant difference in variation of circle of Willis (P0.05)
but ACoAA group did (P0.05). Conclusion Our results show that generation of ACoAA is connected with variation of circle of Willis
but the relationship between generation of PCoAA and variation of circle of Willis still remains unclear.
