Effect of adenovirus expressing nerve growth factor on sciatic nerve injury in rats
Objective To investigate the effect of adenovirus expressing nerve growth factor (Ad-NGF) on sciatic nerve injury in rats. Methods Sciatic nerve injury model was established by transection of right sciatic nerve in 16 male SD rats
and then randomly divided into 4 groups: Ad-NGF group
nerve growth factor (NGF) group
adenovirus vector group and normal sodium group. The effect of various treatments on injured sciatic nerve was evaluated by examining sciatic nerve function index (SFI) and protein expression of NGF by Western blotting
performing electrophysiological test on day 31 after operation. Results Ad-NGF increased the protein expression of NGF and improved SFI and nerve conduction velocity significantly
as compared with the other 3 groups. Conclusion Ad-NGF can effectively promote the repair of sciatic nerve injury in rats.
