Treatment of VX2 hepatic tumor in rabbits with radiofrequency ablation: a study of ghost cells in ablation zones
Objective To observe the existing time and the changes in different periods of ghost cells in rabbit hepatic VX2 tumor model after treatment with radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Methods Rabbit hepatoma models were established by implanting VX2 tumor mass into the liver of 32 New Zealand rabbits. RFA was applied to the tumor by controlling the marginal temperature of the tumors. The tissue samples were collected at 0

4 weeks after the treatment. We obtain the HE-stained specimens and NADH vital stained specimens form the close section to observe the the existing time and the changes in different periods of ghost cells. Results No changes was found in the morphous of ghost cells
no sign of vitality was showed in NADH staining 4 weeks after RFA. Conclusion The morphous of ghost cells in ablation zones was to maintain at least 4 weeks after treatment. The remnant tumor can not been indentified by HE but NADH staining.
