Zoledronic acid combined with single or multiple fraction radiotherapy for metastatic bone pain
Objective To observe the effects and toxicity of zoledronic acid combined with single or multiple fraction radiotherapy for metastatic bone pain. Methods Ninety-eight patients suffering from metastatic bone pain were randomized into group A (n=48) receiving zoledronic acid and single fraction radiotherapy
and group B (n=50) receiving zoledronic acid and multiple fraction radiotherapy. Results The effective rate in group A and group B was 91.7% and 92.0%
and their improvement of activities was 89.6% and 90%
respectively. The ratio of adverse reactions in two groups were similar
with no statistical difference (P0.05). Conclusion Zoledronic acid combined with single or multiple fraction radiotherapy has similar clinical response. Zoledronic acid combined with single fraction is an efficient and cost-effective alternative to traditional multiple fraction radiotherapy for metastatic bone pain.
