Influencing factors of retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in myopia
Objective To measure the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) in myopic patients and explore the association between diopter
corrected vision
central cornea thickness (CCT) and RNFLT in myopia. Methods The present study consisted of randomly selected 90 myopic patients (90 eyes)
dividing into 3 groups according to their diopters: low myopia (≤-3.00 D
14 eyes)
moderate myopia (-6.00 to -3.00 D
47 eyes) and severe myopia (-6.00 D
29 eyes). RNFLT was measured with optical coherence tomography (OCT3000
RNFLT 3.4) and CCT with Pachymeter-SP-3000. All patients underwent mydriasis and subsequent optometry. Results Age
sex
corrected vision
CCT
superior (S)
inferior (I) and nasal (N) RNFLT had no significant difference among the 3 groups (P0.05)
but temple (T) RNFLT was of significant difference between low and severe myopia groups by ANOVA (P=0.012). The changing pattern of RNFLT in myopia follows the rule of “ISTN”. Except the average (Avg)-RNFLT had positive correlation with diopter in severe myopia group (r=0.372
P=0.047)
no significant correlation was observed in other parameters among three groups. Conclusion RNFLT in myopia measured by OCT may have its own rule. Avg-RNFLT may have positive correlation with diopter in severe myopia group.
