In vivo study on intervertebral fusion cage made by nanohydroxyapatite and ployamide66 composites
Objective To evaluate the characteristics of fusion by using biomimetic nano-hydroxyapatite and ployamide66 composites (n-HA/PA66) interbody cage. Methods Thirty adult female goats underwent c3-4 discectomy and intervertebral fusion with n-HA/PA66 interbody cage (n=15) or autogenous iliac crest bone graft (n=15). CT scanning was performed at 4th
12th and 24th week after surgery to evaluate fusion. After the goats were killed respectively on the 12th and 24th week
nondestructive biomechanical test for stiffness
undecalcified histology were performed. Results The goats receiving n-HA/PA66 or autograft all showed complete fusion at 24th week
without statistically significant differience upon biomechanics
radiography and histomorphology (P0.05). Conclusion The intervertebral fusion cage of n-HA/PA66 has good biocompatibility and osteo-conductibility. It may be the ideal interbody fusion cage.
