Infiltrating characteristics of breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy: whole breast serial subsection observation
Objective To study the infiltrating characteristics of breast cancer and the influence of neoadjuvant chemotherapy to it. Methods The whole breast subserial section technique was used to study infitrating characteristics in 93 cases of breast cancer with neoadjuvant chemotherapy and 31 cases without from June 2005 to August 2006. Results In those without neoadjuvant chemotherapy
skin-subcutaneous tissue involvement was 35.5%
big duct involvement 25.8%
invasion to blood vessel around tumor 38.7% and tumor microvascular density (MVD) was (17.2±9.5). In those with neoadujvant chemotherapy
skin-subcutaneous tissue involvement was 9.7%
big duct involvement 8.6%
blood vessel invasion 11.8% and tumor MVD was (8±4.4). Every index after neoadjuvant chemotherapy was significantly lower (P0.05). Conclusion Neoadjuvant chemotherapy can abate infiltration to peripheral tissues of breast cancer and raise the chance of breast conserving therapy.
