Objective    To investigate the periodic release of biological wave regulating factor (BRF) during the waving growth of Proteus mirabilis (PM) and the effect of BRF on waving motility.     Methods    MTT assay and laser scanning confocal microscope were adopted to observe the influence of BRF on PM metabolism; The agglutination inhibition test was used to detect periodic release of BRF and atomic force microscope was applied to observe BRF synthesis during biological waving growth of PM.      Results    BRF could periodically be released during waving growth of PM

and cryptic growth cells could produce many BRF. BRF could enhance bacterium metabolism and promote the change of intracellular pH.     Conclusion    Dynamic process is the waving growth of PM that resulted from the interaction of bacterial metabolism and periodic changes of the environment. This process is related to BRF that the bacterium itself produced.
