Chongqing expert consensus on digital radiography for adenoid evaluation in children
This consensus aims to establish a standardized digital radiography(DR) protocol for the evaluation of adenoids in children and thus provide scientific guidance for the screening and diagnosis of adenoid hypertrophy(AH). Based on the current status of AH screening for children in Chongqing,China and with reference to practical DR operations across 18 major medical institutions,Chongqing Society of Imaging Technology,Chongqing Medical Association, organized a multidisciplinary expert panel to conduct in-depth discussions on key aspects of DR examination, including indications, patient positioning, exposure parameters, image quality control, quantitative diagnostic measurements, and clinical applications, and finally a consensus was reached. To accommodate varying levels of patient cooperation, the consensus recommends three distinct examination positions,i.e.,autonomous cooperation in the standing position, parental assistance for fixation, and lateral decubitus photography after sedation or during sleep. It is recommended to use the acanthiomeatal line as the baseline, and the recommended exposure field extends from the superciliary arch superiorly to the inferior border of the mandible inferiorly and from the nose tip anteriorly to the auricle posteriorly. The central line should be vertically incident 2 cm in front of and below the external ear canal. As for photography parameters,it is recommended to use a small focal spot and set the source-to-image distance to 100 cm. The technical specifications for pediatric adenoid DR examinations established in this consensus will further enhance the technical level and image quality of these examinations, provide more precise imaging information for the clinical assessment of AH,and thus promote the mutual recognition and sharing of pediatric adenoid DR examination results within the region.
